Torsten Dudda: "Did you know that 6G standardisation already started?"

Torsten Dudda is Master Researcher at Ericsson, at the Eurolab in Aachen, Germany. There he leads a research team looking into the 6G RAN standards preparation. He's the first speaker at the Fitce 6G Café.

Evolution towards 6G - A vision of 6G network architecture and technology

Torsten Dudda: "My talk is about how we evolve the 5G networks towards 6G.

We would like to minimise its complexity and maximise the performance. We will go into the details in my talk of the 6G RAN architecture, how to make it simpler and more energy efficient. At the same time, we would like to reuse existing site grids and the core network as much as we can.

The industry is right now aligning on a view how the 6G specification should look like. We expect them to be ready already in 2029. And with 6G we go beyond communications.

Of course, 6G will provide low latency, reliability and high data rates, but at the same time it will become a platform for compute services, AI services, positioning and timing and sensing. This will be services provided to the users and applications that need them.
