During this event, Prof. Bart Preneel will give an overview of the principles and technology behind blockchain, highlighting it's strengths and weaknesses. David Smits from IBM will then, based on his expertise as senior architect on leading blockchain projects, discuss implications for the telecom sector from his point of view. Tim Paridaens will broaden the scope to the media industry, and zoom in on advantages, risks and challenges of blockchain in the media industry. He will also presentation a digital ID solution Finally, Nico Wauters will explain how this Antwerp blockchain pilot pioneers with secure and efficient document workflow.

We end the presentations with a Q&A session, to trigger a discussion that can be continued during a networking drink.

Nico Wauters
Nico Wauters is CEO & co-founder and in charge of Strategy and Business Development. He has over 20 years of international experience in managing teams and building businesses, founder, and former-CEO of NetworkMining NV. He had several senior management positions at KPNQwest, Alcatel, and Tellium and holds a Ph.D. & MSc Applied Science in network planning and optimization.
Bart Preneel
Prof. Bart Preneel is a full professor at the KU Leuven and heads the imec-COSIC group focusing on cryptography, information security and privacy. He has been invited speaker at more than 120 conferences in 50 countries. He has served as president of the IACR (International Association for Cryptologic Research) and is co-founder and chairman of the Board of LSEC.
David Smits
David Smits is Senior Architect within IBM Global Business Services with the focus on leading blockchain projects. He is passionate about innovation and new technology and how to best leverage these to get most benefit for the enterprise. His latest interest goes to Cognitive, IoT, Blockchain and Operations Analytics.
Tim Paridaens
Tim Paridaens is Director within Deloitte Consulting and has specialized in I4.0, (Industrial) Internet of Things and Digital Supply Chains. Currently, Tim serves multiple clients with a specific focus on Digital Ports, Connected Logistics, Connected Manufacturing, Predictive Maintenance and Connected Healthcare.
